Romania Mania

There is an old fellow named Farage/

A note on pronunciation:

I have previously rhymed Farage with ‘disparage’ and with ‘large’. But it seems it is in fact two stressed syllables, the first with a short a, the second with a long one. For some, that will rhyme with ‘garage’, for othes it won’t – so I put ‘barrage’ there to set the rhyme.

One interview in the Independent went like this:

“By the way,” I ask the UKIP leader, “how do you pronounce that place where you park your car?”

“Gárage,” he replies. “Although you, as a Northerner, might call it a garridge.”

“If I was from Richmond or Wilmslow, it could be a garáarge.”

“Pronounce my name however you like,” the politician says. “I say Fárage.” (Rhymes with barrage.)
